{"id":2331,"date":"2016-06-13T20:11:34","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T00:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patrickcain.ca\/?page_id=2331"},"modified":"2026-03-25T12:07:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T16:07:02","slug":"awards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.patrickcain.ca\/?page_id=2331","title":{"rendered":"Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For 2014, I won three <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kateygoalie\/status\/607910925593640960\">RTDNA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RTDNA_Canada\/status\/592016865012142080\">awards<\/a> <\/strong>for data storytelling, and was <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151019195455\/http:\/\/community.globaleditorsnetwork.org\/content\/individual-portfolio-patrick-cain\"><strong>shortlisted<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for best personal portfolio at the international Data Journalism Awards. That year Carmen Chai and I shared a Canadian Medical Association <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/cma-announces-recipients-of-2014-media-awards-for-health-reporting-515721211.html\">award<\/a><\/strong> for health reporting.<\/p>\n<p>For 2015, I <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.patrickcain.ca\/?p=2262\">won<\/a><\/strong> the RTDNA data storytelling award for Ontario, and was shortlisted for the same award for the Prairies.<\/p>\n<p>For 2017, I was shortlisted for the RTDNA data storytelling award for Ontario for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/3821407\/toronto-police-write-fewer-tickets-drunk-drivers\/\">one story<\/a><\/strong>, and won the RTDNA network award (with some help from Fred Vallance-Jones&#8217;s students at King&#8217;s) <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/3870656\/interactive-map-halifax-explosion\/\">for another<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For much of 2010, I was a contributing editor at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.openfile.ca\/\">openfile.ca<\/a><\/strong>, where my <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.patrickcain.ca\/maps\/101111_complete_map.html\">Poppy File<\/a><\/strong> project, which mapped Toronto&#8217;s Second World War deaths at the household level, won a Canadian Online Publishing Award and was shortlisted for an Online News Association award and a National Magazine Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For 2014, I won three RTDNA awards for data storytelling, and was shortlisted\u00a0for best personal portfolio at the international Data Journalism Awards.
